Eau Claire Celebrates 25th Anniversary of IRI BehaviorScan® and Shoppers’ Hotline Market

Wisconsin Test Market Provides Insights into the Needs and Wants of Today’s Savvy Consumers

CHICAGO – Oct. 10, 2006 – Information Resources Inc. (IRI), the leading global provider of enterprise market solutions for the CPG, retail and healthcare industries, announced today that Eau Claire, Wis. is celebrating its 25th anniversary as an IRI BehaviorScan® and Shoppers’ Hotline market with a reception at Fischers’ on the Green, located at 2333 Hillcrest Parkway in Altoona, Wis., on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A brief presentation at 11:45 a.m. will recap the history of the market and provide a glimpse into future consumer research plans.

IRI BehaviorScan is a patented in-market testing service that enables companies to assess their new product launches with full marketing plans in smaller, manageable markets, such as Eau Claire. Nearly 5,000 households are dedicated to tracking their purchases and completing surveys about their purchasing habits in the Eau Claire market.

Stacy Wick, who has been participating in the Eau Claire market for eight years, said, “It’s been exciting to be a part of the market, because I let companies know exactly how a typical American family with two adults and two children spends its money. BehaviorScan and Shoppers’ Hotline tracks where I buy, what I buy and how much I spend.”

In addition to the Eau Claire test market, there are also IRI BehaviorScan markets in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Pittsfield, Mass.; and Grand Junction, Colo. Testing in these markets provides an accurate estimate of a new product’s year-one sales potential and evaluates the effectiveness of each marketing mix element in driving trial and repeat purchasing. Companies can also test TV ads, targeted direct mailings and newspaper ads in these select markets before introducing these advertisements nationally.

“BehaviorScan is the gold standard of in-market testing,” said Sunil Garga, president, IRI Business and Consumer Insights. “With more than half of new products failing every year, companies can no longer take substantial risks on new products. During the past 25 years, our market in Eau Claire has played an integral role in literally shaping what new products end up on retailer’s shelves across the country.”
