IRI Healthcare Expert Provides Insight on How to Expand OTC Access

Steve Johnson Examines How to Reach More Consumers with Increased Accessibility to OTC Products and How to Leverage a Total Health and Wellness Market

WHAT: Growth in the consumer healthcare industry has plateaued during the past two years; however, growth rates for prescription drugs continue to significantly outpace over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. In today’s environment, many retailers and manufacturers are focusing their healthcare marketing initiatives on the pharmacy, but they need to begin connecting the pharmacy to the rest of the store to deliver total store growth. Recognized healthcare expert Steve Johnson will address this issue and build on the Consumer Healthcare Product Association’s conference theme of "Navigating Pathways to OTC Access" by contrasting consumers’ accessibility to medicines that have switched from prescription to OTC status, such as Prilosec, to their accessibility of OTC products that have moved behind the counter because they contain Pseudoephedrine. During his presentation, "Case Studies for Prilosec OTC and PSE to Gain Insights to Expanded OTC Accessibility"  Johnson will examine the existing opportunity of reaching more households with increased accessibility to OTC products and how retailers and manufactures can collaborate to connect the pharmacy with the rest of the store to drive growth.
