IRI AllScan Provides Unprecedented Convenience Insights for NACS

IRI AllScan Convenience Store Tracking Service Provides Insights for NACS’ State of the Industry Research

CHICAGO, April 8, 2009
- Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) announced today that it is providing the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) with insights that are aligned with NACS category definitions through the IRI AllScan Convenience Store Tracking™ service. NACS will feature the insights in its State of the Industry suite of research publications and as part of its annual State of the Industry Summit.

"Having IRI AllScan insights available using NACS category definitions is a big win for the entire $624 billion convenience retailing channel, because it provides retailers and manufacturers with an opportunity to gain mutual insights, even into categories that haven't previously been tracked by syndicated services," said NACS Vice Chairman of Research Greg Parker.

The IRI AllScan Convenience Store Tracking service is the only 100 percent scan-based, point-of-sale (POS) data tracking solution for the convenience channel. The service, which was launched in 2007, supplies comprehensive and highly-accurate sales, price, promotion, distribution information and consumer insights on a weekly basis across the entire convenience channel. Only IRI has made the commitment and investment to install scanning in small independent stores to provide the convenience retailing industry a more complete view of sales performance.

"The U.S. economy is undergoing a fundamental shift that will forever change all aspects of retailing," said IRI Consulting and Innovation President Thom Blischok. "Consumers are changing how they buy, what they buy and where they shop to stretch their dollars. The convenience channel has done a marvelous job of rewiring its business to meet today's changing consumer, and IRI AllScan continues this fine tuning by offering a view into sales for all UPC-coded, consumer packaged goods categories at the total U.S. and local geography level. This type of granular insight is exactly what the convenience channel needs to focus their business around consumers, assortment and innovation."
