Pedro DeJesús from IRI Named One of Chicago United’s Business Leaders of Color

Talented Pool of Diverse Leaders Featured in Publication for Fortune 500 Companies and “Crain’s Chicago Business”
CHICAGO – Oct. 31, 2005 – Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) announced today that Pedro DeJesús, Jr., vice president and corporate counsel, has been selected as one of Chicago United’s 2005 Business Leaders of Color. The distinguished program is comprised of accomplished Chicago business leaders who have achieved success not only as corporate executives and entrepreneurs but as true corporate and civic leaders. Honorees of the program will be featured in a special insert in the Oct. 31 edition of Crain’s Chicago Business which will also be distributed to chief executive officers of Fortune 500 companies across the nation.

DeJesús has received a number of awards and recognitions during his career. La Raza newspaper has called DeJesús “a brilliant lawyer;” the Chicago Sun-Times reported that he was a “self-made son of Dominican immigrants;” and the Chicago Tribune wrote that “DeJesús…has the makings of a Chicago leader,” when he was a candidate for the Illinois legislature.

“We’re thrilled that Pedro’s talent and dedication to community service has been recognized by Chicago United,” said IRI President and Chief Executive Officer Scott W. Klein. “Pedro is an extremely bright and accomplished attorney and is a tremendous asset to our legal team. His work doesn’t stop with IRI, though. He puts considerable time and energy into a number of civic, philanthropic and social organizations.  He is a true role model.”

Before joining IRI, DeJesús served as an associate attorney at McGuire Woods, LLP and Piper Rudnick and was a fellow at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the premier Latino civil rights litigation and advocacy institution in the United States. He earned his undergraduate degree from Roosevelt University, where he graduated as “Student of the Year” and also received the prestigious Lincoln Laureate Award from the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. He earned his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law, where he graduated with dean’s list honors.

DeJesús currently serves on the board of trustees for Roosevelt University and on the board of directors for Mujeres Latinas En Acción, a Chicago social service organization that provides bilingual and bicultural comprehensive services to Latinas and their families. He is also on the board of trustees for the Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois and serves as pro bono legal counsel to the Puerto Rican Parade Committee of Chicago. In addition, DeJesús is the northwest chapter delegate to the Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization and serves as a mentor in the J.D. Mentors Program for the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois.

The 2003 inaugural issue of Business Leaders of Color was welcomed with tremendous enthusiasm both from large corporations and minority communities that were seeking a source through which talented individuals of color could be introduced and integrated into Chicago’s business leadership networks and boards of directors.

Chicago United’s 2005 Business Leaders of Color will be honored at the Bridge Awards Dinner November 2, 2005 at the Westin River North Hotel, Chicago, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., where Cheryl Burton of ABC 7 News will be the Mistress of Ceremonies.
