IRI Introduces Industry First, Revolutionary Scan-based Convenience Store Tracking Service
New Total Scan-based C-Store Service Significantly Improves Data Quality and Retail Execution Capabilities
CHICAGO – March 30, 2005 – With over 138,000 retail stores primarily operated by single store owners with limited or no point-of-sale (POS) scanning capabilities, today’s convenience channel remains a challenging sector to effectively track. Recognizing the need for deeper business insights and improved information quality over audit-based services, Information Resources, Inc. (IRI), the leading global provider of enterprise market information solutions for the CPG, Retail, and healthcare industries and eRevolution, a premier provider of POS scanning technology for individual and multi-chain store operators, today announced a strategic relationship to provide a next generation scan-based sales tracking service for the convenience store channel.
The two companies will implement eRevolution’s scanning technology at participating convenience retailers to provide the highly-accurate sales information across an expanded sample for IRI’s InfoScan® Convenience Store Tracking Service. The newly-enhanced service will deliver unmatched business insights and significantly improved accuracy to help manufacturers and retailers improve category management effectiveness and retail execution across the entire convenience channel. As a result, IRI is positioned to deliver service and capabilities not available by other providers in the marketplace today.
The new relationship combines IRI’s leadership in POS data collection and business insights with eRevolution’s proven ability to provide easy-to-implement and use scanning systems for the single-store retailer, the heart of convenience retailing. The initial roll-out of the service calls for adding a minimum of 2,000 scanning stores to IRI’s existing service, providing more accuracy at national, regional and market levels. As a result, IRI will provide more granular insight into the convenience channel on a weekly basis, covering all available categories.
“IRI is more committed now than at any time in the history of our company to the convenience channel. We are dedicated to providing business insights rapidly and accurately to help all c-store retailers and their manufacturing partners improve performance and meet their consumers’ needs,” said Scott W. Klein, President and CEO of IRI. “The relationship between IRI and eRevolution provides a level of service never available before in the convenience marketplace. This ground-breaking service marries IRI’s longstanding expertise in the convenience channel and eRevolution’s innovative technology. We are thrilled that we have once again been able to meet the challenge posed to us by many of the top retailers and manufacturers looking for deeper insights to drive their business. This scan-based program clearly sets a new standard for the convenience industry."
The enhanced capabilities surpass the services currently offered in the marketplace today which are primarily supported by audit-based approaches. IRI’s new insights are solely based on highly representative scanner level data, not periodic reviews of inventory and delivery information, providing the deeper visibility into daily and weekly transaction-level data across more regions and markets.
“eRevolution has proven experience in providing affordable, scalable POS and inventory management solutions to small and mid-size retailers,” said Jacob Moskowitz, CEO of eRevolution. “The combined capabilities of this relationship provide dramatic and immediate impact to both the retailer’s and manufacturer’s bottom line by eliminating the human error associated with manual data collection.”
