IRI Expands Apollo™ Space Management Capabilities to Deliver True Consumer-Centric Assortment and Planning

Newly Enhanced IRI Apollo Designer Workstation™ Provides Capabilities that Address Even More of Store

CHICAGO and ORLANDO, Fla., March 5, 2008 – As retailers focus on more consumer-centric merchandising strategies, it is important for them to have access to a space management solution that covers the entire store. Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) announced today the enhancement of peg board capabilities to its Apollo™ space management offering, specifically the IRI Apollo Designer Workstation™ solution, to provide retailers and manufacturers with a comprehensive solution that covers the vast majority of planogrammed shelves.  The expanded support for peg boards significantly increases a manufacturer’s and a retailer’s ability to effectively manage assortment and merchandising for improved growth and profitability.

“We are continuing to strengthen our space management offering to meet the evolving needs and changing footprints for a myriad of retail channels,” said President of IRI Innovation and Consulting Thom Blischok. “Since peg boards represent a vital merchandising option, it is necessary to have an integrated view of the entire shelf set, including peg boards. IRI is delivering this critical view in the newest version of Designer Workstation.”

Depending on its size and format, a store can have more than 50 percent of its merchandising space dedicated to peg boards that hold everything from health and beauty items, such as razors and toothbrushes, to a variety of sporting goods items.

IRI enhanced its Designer Workstation, an easy-to-use desktop product that combines assortment, capacity and merchandising rules to generate hundreds of unique planograms per planner per day, with the following peg board capabilities:

  • Optimized assortment
  • Optimized capacity calculations
  • Optimized product placement with horizontal and vertical placements as well as overlaps between product groups and automated renumbering of items

Designer Workstation is a proven and trusted solution that is used by a wide variety of leading retailers. Vendors in space planning management noted IRI Designer Workstation for its strengths in store clustering/segmentation and micro space planning analytics/reporting in AMR Research’s August 2007 report “Space Management: Align Business Challenges and IT Vendors.”
